March 2013 Newsletter

Greetings from the last frontier!  We hope this finds you all doing well!  Winter is (SLOWLY!) coming to an end.  We still have quite a bit of snow (and got a few more inches yesterday) but we have been having close to 15 hours of sunlight a day, so with that…summer will be here eventually!  Although the winter has seemed quite long this year, the summer season is quickly approaching. Along with it, there are some exciting new changes!

Collin has been promoted to Program Director this year! He is excited about this new opportunity to serve God in this role.  He will no longer be the Wilderness Director, as he has been in years past.  This year, he will be in charge of all three camps—base camp, ranch camp, and wilderness camp.  Along with making sure these three camps run smoothly, he is also in charge of recruiting our summer staff.   We do have some current needs for summer staff:

-S.A.L.T. (Student and Leadership Training) counselor (must be 21 years or older)

– Boy counselors (must be 18 years or older).  We currently need 3 boy counselors.

– Activities Director (must be 16 years or older)

– Base Camp Director (must be 18 years or older)

– Ranch boy counselor (must be 18 years or older).

-Girl Wilderness Counselor (must be 18 years or older)

-Ranch Wrangler (must be 18 years or older and have experience working with horses).

Please be praying for these positions to be filled! If you know of anyone who would be interested, please put him or her in contact with us!

Our theme for summer camp this year is “No Gray Area”, and the verse for the summer is 2 Timothy 3:16-17—“All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”  We want to share with the campers that the Bible IS truth, that there are no gray areas in the Bible—that it is black and white.  Please be in prayer for each camper that comes to Camp Li-Wa this summer—that they would learn that the Bible is truth and they would be drawn to Jesus Christ.  Our first day of summer camp is June 10th; staff training begins on June 2nd…it’s quickly approaching!!

Switching gears to our other ministry at University Baptist Church—we are now in full swing with the youth group! Small groups are underway.  We have just finished the book, Purpose Driven Life, and are now beginning a study on the book of Philippians, teaching them to use the T.O.P.A.D (Title, Observation, Principle, Application, and Devotion) Bible Study Method.  During Spring Break, March 13-17, we took the youth group down to Anchorage for a youth conference called Avalanche.  On our way down to Anchorage, we stopped for a few days at our sister camp, Victory Bible Camp, for a fun retreat.  Collin led some talks on worship, and the kids were able to enjoy hanging out with one another.  We had one girl in our youth group accept Jesus as her Lord and Savior! Praise God! Please pray that her heart will continue to grow towards Him!

Towards the middle of April, Collin is heading down to the south for a conference with the church staff from University Baptist. The conference is called The Orange Conference, and is focused on helping church leaders “discover new strategies for sharing God’s truth with the next generation” ( Collin will be going down a bit early in order to spend some time with his family.  Although Sam and Savannah are staying in Alaska, they are looking forward to a visit from Sam’s mom while Collin is gone! Please be in prayer for Collin as he is travelling and that he has an enjoyable time with his family and at the conference.

Our sweet Savannah is growing up oh so quickly! She is a year a half old (already?!) and is walking, talking, and full of energy! She loves reading her books, learning sign language, and playing with our dog, Jack!! She is such a blessing to our lives!

As we have shared above some specific prayer requests for both our ministries—Camp Li-Wa and University Baptist Church, we’d also like to share some personal requests with you as well:

-Pray for Collin has he juggles the responsibilities of Program Director, Youth Director, husband and dad! He’s a busy guy! He is also taking online classes through Liberty University! Pray for Sam that she can continue to help Collin where he needs it and to support him as best she can! Pray for our family as a whole, that we can stay strong in the LORD.

-Pray for us as we are working hard and focusing on getting debt free! Pray with us for those who support us financially.  Please prayerfully consider joining us in our ministry by finically supporting us, either monthly or with a one-time gift.  If you are interested in doing so, please inquire through the email address below.

We want to thank you all for your continued prayers and ongoing support as we continue ministry here in Alaska. God is continuing to remind us that He alone is in control.  We hope and pray that you all are doing well!

Trusting the LORD, seeking His will, and following His path,

Collin, Sam, and Savannah
